Our volunteer program significantly impacts our ability to serve homeless families in our community. We continually have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. We welcome both regular and one-time volunteers, individuals, and groups, to share your talents and skills. Below you will find a synopsis for each of our programs, each of which is supported by our volunteers and events.
Our Community Center provides after school programming for resident youth, which includes homework help, STEM-based activities, therapeutic activities, and mentoring programs in addition to other events like Family Literacy Night.
This program utilizes volunteers Monday – Friday 3:00 pm – 6:30 pm.
Our Donation Center provides the families we serve with the necessary items to begin again. Here families have access to food, clothing, and other household items, which supports them as they begin their path to self-sufficiency. Through the Donation Center, parents are able to pick out gifts for their children that they might not otherwise be able to afford and the youth can obtain supplies for school and the like.
This program utilizes volunteers Monday – Friday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm.
The Resource Center provides residents access to various materials such as financial literacy courses, parenting classes, resume building, job readiness, and self-care workshops. Residents also have access to computers and the internet for job searching. All of these are important means to help families become empowered and independent.
This program utilizes volunteers Monday – Friday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm.
Our Outreach Team is a volunteer group of men and women who represent House of Refuge at community events, promote House of Refuge through social media and collaborate fundraising events to benefit House of Refuge.
Meetings are held the 3rd Monday 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
This program utilizes volunteers Nights and Weekends.
We continue to partner with and welcome Eagle and Girl Scouts for projects. Examples of projects completed at House of Refuge include building custom shelving units, installing a water fountain in our main entryway, curbing, DVD drive…and much more.

Though prior volunteer experience is beneficial is not required. We have many opportunities from wrap around services for residents, day to day operations and service to residents in multiple departments to community awareness and outreach so welcome a wide variety of skills.
For regularly scheduled individual opportunities, an individual must be 15 years old.
As we are a small staff, we rely on our volunteer team for day to day responsibilities & ongoing projects. We do ask volunteers to commit to volunteering with us for a minimum of 6 months. Most shifts are 2 – 3 hours in length, and volunteers can sign up once (or multiple times) a week/month.
